About the Project
WEC contributed to the New York State Life Sciences Public Health Laboratory — a landmark $1.7 billion project consolidating five state health facilities into a single 655,600-square-foot complex housing the NYS Wadsworth Center, the largest state public health laboratory in the United States. Design-build contractor: Gilbane/Turner joint venture with HOK architects. Construction began Q1 2025, completion expected 2030.
WEC's Role: Electrical Supply & Logistics
WEC supplied specialized electrical materials and components for the laboratory's complex electrical and mechanical systems infrastructure, supporting the active design-build schedule. The highly technical scope — involving laboratory-grade power systems, environmental controls, and SCADA integration — demanded precise specification compliance and reliable delivery logistics.
Project Impact
The new Wadsworth Center will dramatically enhance New York State's capacity to detect and respond to public health threats, advancing pandemic preparedness and serving as a national model for public health infrastructure.
